In the Avanguardia series, Montegrappa launches a new era of storytelling with the Montgolfier Limited Edition—a salute to human flight, imagination, and the daring leap into the skies. Inspired by the legendary Montgolfier brothers and their first manned balloon ascent in 1783, this pen embodies ambition, elegance, and the spirit of the Enlightenment.
Design & Craftsmanship
From sterling silver bodies cast via lost-wax techniques to intricate vermeil accents, Montgolfier is a sculptural marvel. The domed cap echoes a balloon canopy, complete with zodiac motifs surrounding a lion’s head medallion. Below, a majestic golden eagle motif soars across a sky-blue resin barrel, and the clip mimics the coiled rope of early aerostats. Each pen is individually numbered on the engine-turned finial, which evokes the weave of a balloon basket.

Utilizing natural celluloid and precious metals,Montegrappa combines traditional methods such as die-casting with more recent innovations as low-relief engraving to form their precious art objects. Whether Montegrappa use colors reminiscent of the master painters or ornamentation suggestive of Baroque palaces, the Italian heritage and romance is infused into each product.
