OMAS Ingegno Scrittorio Fountain Pen

The “Ingegno Scrittorio” fountain pen, introduced by OMAS in 2002, is a remarkable tribute to Leonardo da Vinci and the spirit of the Italian Renaissance. Created by Raffaella Simoni Malaguti, daughter of OMAS founder Armando Simoni, together with her son Gianluca, this extraordinary writing instrument was inspired by previously unseen sketches by Leonardo da Vinci that are considered among the earliest concepts of the modern fountain pen.

These historic drawings were presented to the Malaguti family by Professor Alessandro Vezzosi, renowned Leonardo scholar and Director of the Museo Ideale Leonardo da Vinci. Though Leonardo’s original concepts required important adaptations for modern use, they ultimately inspired the creation of the “Ingegno Scrittorio” — literally translated as “Writing Genius” — a masterpiece that perfectly combines Renaissance inspiration with contemporary OMAS craftsmanship.

The pen features a refined cylindrical body crowned by a small sphere set with a carnelian cabochon in the sterling silver version. Elegant decorative engravings on the body, cap, and end pieces are inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s famous knot patterns, adding both artistic depth and timeless sophistication to the design.

Produced as a limited edition of only 1,000 pieces in sterling silver, the Ingegno Scrittorio is fitted with a remarkable nib design originally created by Angelo Malaguti in 1971. The nib combines pure, aerodynamic lines with a futuristic appearance, appropriately named “Rinascimento” (Renaissance). In keeping with Leonardo’s innovative vision, the pen is equipped with a handcrafted ebonite feeder, ensuring exceptional writing performance and ink flow.

Presented in a beautifully crafted oak wood case engraved with the collection name, the Ingegno Scrittorio reflects the contrast between understated exterior elegance and luxurious interior detailing.
