The AP Limited Editions Maki-e The Writer Among The Stars Fountain Pen is a stunning tribute to the vast beauty of the night sky. Crafted using the traditional Togidashi Maki-e technique (or "burnished" Maki-e) of Japanese Lacquer Art, this fountain pen features an unusual Black matte surface, created through multiple applications of pure Black Urushi lacquer sourced from Japan.
To evoke the magic and stillness of space, the pen is adorned with shimmering Blue-Green bits of Abalone shell in three different sizes, scattered delicately across the body. These mesmerizing accents replicate the serene beauty of stars shining against a darkened sky, making this writing instrument not just a tool, but a work of art.
The Among The Stars Fountain Pen captures the elegance and serenity of the cosmos, offering an exceptional writing experience that reflects the refined craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage of Maki-e lacquer art. Perfect for collectors and connoisseurs, this pen is a beautiful expression of artistry and sophistication.
Limited to 9 pens worldwide.
Maki-e Lacquer Art
Japanese Maki-e Art is a revered and rare form of artistic expression that dates back over 1400 years. This exquisite art form remains alive today thanks to a handful of living Masters who continue to preserve its rich heritage. To become a skilled Maki-e Shi (artist), one must start as an apprentice at a young age, spending years learning from a master before embarking on their own artistic journey. The dedication to this craft ensures that Maki-e remains one of the most respected and intricate art forms in the world.
Maki-e Art involves the use of Urushi lacquer, which is derived from the sap of the Urushi tree native to Japan, and is combined with gold powder and other precious metals and powders. These are carefully painted and inlaid into intricate designs that require exceptional skill and precision. AP Limited Editions utilize multiple Maki-e techniques in our pens, including Hira Maki-e, Togidashi Maki-e, Taka Maki-e, Shishiai Togidashi Maki-e, and Bokashi Maki-e, each offering a unique depth and artistry.
AP Limited Editions takes great pride in offering some of the most exquisite Maki-e writing instruments ever created. Our Limited Edition Maki-e Fountain Pens are crafted with 18K Gold Nibs in various grades, providing not only a beautiful writing experience but also a piece of Japanese art that can be passed down for generations.
About AP Limited Editions
AP Limited Editions was founded by Anuj Poddar, an avid pen and art collector whose fascination with fine writing instruments began at the age of nine when he first learned penmanship. Raised in India and later studying in England, Poddar’s passion for fountain pens flourished in London’s vibrant artistic scene. After moving to the United States, he became an active member of the pen collector community, spending years exploring traditional art forms and studying the technicalities required to craft the finest writing instruments. His dedication culminated in the creation of AP Limited Editions in February 2006, in Los Angeles, where he realized his vision of producing pens that are not only functional but true works of art.
Driven by a passion for heritage craftsmanship, AP Limited Editions pushes the boundaries of traditional Lacquer Art, creating exquisite pens that are heirlooms to be cherished for generations. With the Bespoke service, Poddar offers customers the opportunity to bring their unique expressions to life on a personalized pen. Over the years, the brand has garnered numerous nominations and awards for the Best Pen of The Year in various categories, solidifying its reputation as a symbol of luxury, artistry, and craftsmanship in the world of writing instruments.
